The Ph.D. course aims to develop the necessary skills, as well as solid methodological basis, to carry out high quality research work at national and international level in accounting, management and business economics within public administrations, companies and other public or private bodies. The program is structured to train scholars capable of producing original and impactful research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields. In particular, the doctoral course promotes a rigorous approach to research, encouraging critical thinking, analytical depth, and methodological pluralism. Ph.D. candidates are supported in acquiring the competencies needed to design and implement research projects aligned with the standards of international scientific communities. Among others, the Ph.D. program focuses on the following research areas. Throughout the program, doctoral students participate in seminars, workshops, and conferences that enhance their exposure to cutting-edge debates and foster international collaboration.
The courses are held during the first year and are organized into three main areas: core courses, methodology, and specialized courses. The program includes core courses such as Doctoral Dissertation Writing, which equips students with the skills to develop compelling research proposals and theses; Management Research Methods, which provides a strong foundation in the ethical principles and practices of effective research; the Publication Process, which guides students in navigating the academic publishing landscape; and Epistemology and Philosophy of Science, which explores the foundational principles that underpin scientific inquiry, among others. The methodology area focuses on equipping students with robust research skills. It covers both quantitative and qualitative research design, enabling students to conduct rigorous data analysis. The specialized courses provide advanced knowledge in Management, Accounting, Economics, and Finance. These courses are designed to deepen students’ expertise and equip them with the necessary tools to excel in both academic and professional environments.

Ph.D. students obtain a fundamental understanding of contemporary advances in accounting, management, business economics and related disciplines as well as of appropriate research methods. The Department of Economia Aziendale sponsors also a variety of seminars for the presentation and discussion of current research in Accounting, Management and Business Economics. These seminars play a pivotal role in the Ph.D. program, and students at all stages of the program are encouraged to participate. Ph.D. students spend a period of study abroad and obtain a further mobility allowance.
